Symptoms Details: Leaves and culms become soft and droopy thus increasing mutual shading reduced photosynthetic activity. Increased occurrence of diseases. Si-deficient plants are also particularly susceptible to lodging. Generally deficiency occurs in paddy at poor soil fertility.

Role:
- Silicon is found as a component of cell walls.
- Plants with supplies of soluble silicon produce stronger, tougher cell walls making them a mechanical barrier to pests and diseases.
- This significantly enhances plant heat and drought tolerance.
